Many companies treat KVKK compliance as a legal obligation alone, even though much of it depends on technical infrastructure. Writing policies is a start; the real work concerns how data is stored and accessed.
The technical roadmap
- Data inventory: identify which systems contain personal data and who can access it
- Access control: each user should only access the data needed for their work
- Encryption: protect data both in storage and in transit
- Log management: retain visibility into who accessed what and when
- Backup & deletion: automate deletion policies at the end of retention periods
- Breach notification processes: technical readiness for notification within 72 hours
These controls cannot all be deployed in one week. With a prioritized roadmap, however, compliance maturity can be developed over three to six months.
Common mistakes
Many organizations write policies but never implement them. Without technical controls such as GPO, IAM and DLP, those policies remain on paper. Another common mistake is keeping backups on an unencrypted server: data protection must extend beyond the primary server.
